Euregio Young Researchers Award 2024: applications open
April 2024

An award for outstanding research and innovation in Trentino, South Tyrol, and Tyrol will be presented during the Tyrol Days of the European Forum Alpbach in 2024.

As a key part of the European Forum Alpbach, Tyrol Days have evolved into a significant platform for showcasing the research landscape in Euregio Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino over the years. The forum, one of Europe's oldest networking events, draws hundreds of academics, politicians, industry experts, and students every year to discuss economic, political, scientific, and environmental topics.

Tyrol Days this year will focus on Artificial Intelligence in the Euregio, following the 2023 edition's focus on "energy transition and supply security." The scheduled events are open to participants from all scientific disciplines, with topics ranging from general views on artificial intelligence to ethical and administrative aspects, as well as selected applications such as mobility, education, and assistance. A dedicated prize will be awarded to the top 6 projects by young researchers.

A prize dedicated to research and innovation

The Young Researchers Award is open to all researchers born after August 16, 1989, in any of the territories within the Euregio. Participants will have the opportunity to present their research projects to a high-level jury and engage directly on the topic of Artificial Intelligence with renowned scientists and political leaders.

Young individuals from the three territories are encouraged to submit an English abstract of their research work by May 15 through an online form. Specifically, submissions should originate from the fields of economics and social sciences, law, education and humanities, technical sciences, natural sciences, and medicine. A distinguished jury, chaired by the President of the Free University of Bolzano, will select the best projects, and the selected young researchers will be invited to present their work and exchange ideas with renowned scientists and institutional representatives during the Tyrol Days at the European Forum Alpbach on August 17 and 18, 2024.

Project Phases

Young researchers up to 35 years old (born by August 16, 1989) working at universities, higher education institutions, and research institutes within the Euregio or elsewhere, but originating from the Euregio, can apply.

Here are the phases:

  • Phase 1: Submission of a detailed English abstract of a paper (max. 15,000 characters including spaces or max. 8 pages with graphs) and an updated CV by May 15, 2024.

  • Phase 2: The jury, composed of sector experts, will evaluate the submissions by June 23, 2024. Two young researchers per category will then be invited to Phase 3.

  • Phase 3: Presentation and discussion of the scientific project during the Tyrol Days at the European Forum Alpbach on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from approximately 9:00 to 13:00 (in English). Finalists will be reimbursed for travel and accommodation in Alpbach (2 nights).

  • Evaluation: The evaluation of the Phase 3 theses will be carried out by the jury, considering the written abstract (50%, including a 2.5-point bonus compensation for PhD candidates or a 2.5-point discount compensation for post-docs with more than 3 years from the thesis) and the presentation and discussion at the Young Researchers Working Group (50%).
